5:30 am, Nils wakes up & starts being noisy. We go to do Mormor a favor and feed her animals.
5:40 am, Finished feeding animals. Try to get back in and realize that we are locked out because we didn't unlock the door before we went out. Spent another 20 minutes outside in our pajamas hunting snails.
6:10 am, Mormor unlocks the door and we go inside for breakfast.
7:45 am, Outside with Walter and Nils.
7:59 am, Look down in time to see a five inch centipede run right between Walter's legs.
8:00 am, Shrieking.
8:00 am, Shrieking and snatching Walter away from the centipede.
8:01 am, Crouching with Walter and Nils watching the centipede crawl around.
8:05 am, Standing guard next to some boulders hoping the centipede comes back out so I can take a picture of it.
8:45 am, Driving to the parade. Notice the AC isn't working.
9:00 am, Parade starts.
9:24 am, Sister's float goes by.
10:27 am, John McCain kisses baby.
10:30 am Star Wars cast scoops poop.
10:47 am, Hearsebulance goes by.
11:00 am, Eat lunch at Mormor's
1:30 pm, Leave for Phoenix.
1:55 pm, Pull into Home Depot parking lot with funny sounds and smells coming from our car. The noises and smell stop when we turn off the AC and fan. After much deliberation we decide to go ahead and try to get back to Phoenix.
In Phoenix
3:30 pm, Passing through Anthem and wondering if I might actually get heat stroke while driving.
3:45 pm, Arrive at Grandma & Grandpa's.
4:00 pm, Grandpa diagnoses funny noise and broken AC. We need a new compressor and clutch for our AC system. Order parts.
5:00 pm, Borrow Grandma's car (thanks Grandma!) and drive back to our house.
5:30 pm, note that the chickens aren't dead, and in-fact didn't seem to miss us at all.
6:24 pm, Walter throws soccer ball at chickens and makes contact. Chickens regret our return.
7:00 pm, Baths for the kids.
8:00 pm, Bed for the kids.

For anyone who would like to know what type of centipede we saw it was the common desert centipede or scolopendra polymorpha and looks like this. The legs on the ones we saw were longer in comparison to the body, which we're guessing means it was young.
Thanks for all the pictures and story of your 4th of July day. I am glad all of you (including chickens) survived the day.
That is quite the day! I hope the AC parts weren't too expensive.
I wonder why you didn't call us up so we at least could have made sure that you made it down there in good time. I still think it's time to buy a cell phone, don't you? I think family safety is involved.
